Firefighters save dog in northwest valley apartment fire

A 1-year-old cocker spaniel was rescued from a northwest apartment fire on Thursday afternoon.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the smoke-filled apartment at 5921 Smoke Ranch Road, near Jones Boulevard, and forced entry, according to a fire department release.

Only one occupant could be found during a search of the unit, “Kodah,” who was unresponsive.

Thanks to fast-acting firefighters and a special animal oxygen mask, Kodah was revived and taken to the veterinarian.

No people were injured in the fire. It caused $20,000 in damage, the release said.

Two adults and two teens were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
