Local team bars ready to cheer a new season

It has been way too long since hard-core gridiron fans have been able to turn on the TV and catch some of that organized mayhem we know as NFL football.

But it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, with a bit of out-of-the-box thinking, we can watch pro football on TV all year-round.

Hungry for culture? Just tune in to PBS and catch a "Great Performances" presentation of "Lynn Swann Lake" featuring male dancers in pads and ballerinas wearing Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfits.

Want to share some tube time with the kids? Check out "Sesame Street," brought to you today by the number "Ocho Cinco."

Craving an obtuse adventure? Tune in "Lost," when the survivors of Oceanic 815 and The Others square off in a flag football game, winner-takes-island. That wily Sawyer would display some great moves as a running back, while Hurley would be a rock-solid center ...

But there's no need for such flights of pigskin fancy. The 2009 NFL season begins Thursday, marking the official beginning of what is -- and no offense to Christmas intended -- truly the most wonderful time of the year.

To celebrate, we once again present the annual compendium of Southern Nevada bars, taverns and restaurants that cater to fans of specific NFL teams.

As always, this list includes no sports bars, sports books or other places where other games are shown while the home team's game is on. If your favorite bar doesn't appear here, it's because the bar's owner or manager didn't call us or didn't call us by the deadline, or because the bar doesn't fit our criteria as a team bar.

With the administrative stuff out of the way, this year's roster represents 58 team bars.
