NCCF offers hope, support to those touched by life-threatening illnesses

By Kasey Schefflin-Emrich

SPECIAL TO VIEW

Since 1993, the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation in Southern Nevada has been providing programs and services to families whose children have been diagnosed with life-threatening or critical illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, sickle cell, hemophilia, renal disorders, and immune and blood-related diseases.

“We have Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Master Degree Social workers that guide all of our families through all the financial, social, emotional (and) educational needs they may encounter on their journey,” Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation President and CEO Jeff Gordon said. Gordon said NCCF is committed to “helping those we serve understand how much we care and that we are here to take them by the hand and help them through some very troubled waters.”

The business has a secondary location called the Caring Place which looks at adults, as well as the whole family, and offers healing arts and wellness programs to those who have been touched by cancer or other fatal diseases. All of the programs and services are provided at no charge.

What You’ll Find: ”A very passionate and loving staff who care and want to do all we can to brighten up some very dark circumstances for children and families that by no fault of their own find themselves in a very dark place,” Gordon said.

“The children you meet will amaze you with their courage, dignity, and strength of what they face every day.”

What They’re Saying: ”We have the largest camp in state of Nevada for all of our children called Camp Cartwheel that gives our children a magical experience to be kids and experience some normality in their lives away from all the medical day-to-day activities as they build self-esteem and confidence as they meet others who are going through the same thing they are,” Gordon said.
