Fishing Report, Jan. 24

■ LAKE MEAD - Stripers are moving in and out of Boulder Harbor, so catching has been sporadic in that area.  The back of Vegas Wash still has shad roaming the shoreline, so some anglers have been using live bait, but most are using lures. Midafternoon has been the prime fishing time. A few largemouth bass have been showing up as well. Fishing deep and slow while using jigs and plastic baits has proven successful.

■ LAKE MOHAVE - While a few anglers have reported seeing small schools of stripers not far from shore, not many are catching them, although a 24-pound striper was caught near mile marker 49. Most action during the past week has been with largemouth and smallmouth bass. Dark-colored jigs fished slowly along the bottom can be productive.

■ LAUGHLIN - Reports of good trout action along the Colorado River come to us from the folks at Riviera Marina. Rainbow trout are hitting near Davis Camp, along Casino Row and above Big Bend. One lucky angler reeled in a 4-pound rainbow that measured nearly 21 inches long.

■ URBAN PONDS - Fishing has been good following the weekly rainbow trout plants. The fish are averaging just 8 to 9 inches in length and have been biting on small spinners, rainbow PowerBait and night crawlers with small marshmallows.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - The ice is 6 inches thick on Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs near the dam and boat launches. Pockets of open water are starting to show at the northern end of Cold Springs. Ice fishermen are reporting good fishing using glow tube jigs and rainbow PowerBait. Conditions at Dacey and Adams-McGill reservoirs are questionable as the ice appears to be thin and unsafe. Dacey is starting to open up near the dam and boat launch. As temperatures continue to rise, anglers should use caution when venturing onto the ice. Roads are frozen in the morning and muddy in the afternoon, but access should not be a problem.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - Ice on this reservoir is averaging from 15 to 18 inches thick. Anglers have been having success with night crawlers, PowerBait in varying colors and fluorescent green jigs. Rainbow trout from 13 to 15 inches in length comprise most of the catch.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Ice conditions are similar to those on Eagle Valley Reservoir, with ice averaging 15 to 18 inches thick. Night crawlers, PowerBait in varying colors and fluorescent green jigs are catching the fish. Anglers primarily are catching rainbow trout in the 13- to 15-inch range.
