CHEFS FOR KIDS 5K RUN/FUN WALK PLANNED

The Chefs for Kids 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road. Each runner/walker receives a Chefs for Kids T-shirt, goodie bag and a free pancake breakfast. There will also be a raffle.

Participant fees are: adults, $25 for 5K/$20 for Fun Walk; children 12 or younger, $20; and groups of 10 or more, $20 per runner. The day-of fee is $35.

FREE PICKLEBALL CLINIC SCHEDULED

A free pickleball clinic for players ages 8 to adult is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 27 at Mission Hills Park, 551 East Mission Drive. Wooden paddles and balls will be available for use. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks to share.

Activities are set to include an exhibition match and potluck lunch at noon, a beginners clinic led by John Sloan and Geri Grodzinsky at 12:30 p.m., and a game strategies clinic led by Mario Najera and Isaac Johnson at 12:30 p.m. followed by play.

CITY OF NORTH LAS VEGAS OFFERING GOLF LESSONS

The city of North Las Vegas plans to offer winter session Par 3 Golf Lessons Jan. 10 to Feb. 14. The instructional sessions offered include beginner for ages 6 to 16, adult for ages 16 or older and intermediate for all ages, based on skill. RAINBOW YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE SIGN-UPS PLANNED

Rainbow Youth Soccer League sign-ups for the spring 2015 season are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31 and Feb. 7 at Dunkin Donuts, 3481 S. Durango Drive. The league office is at 9360 W. Flamingo Road.

WINTER CAMP PLANNED AT REC CENTER

Winter Camp at the E! is planned from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 26 and Dec. 29-Jan. 2. It is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

This day camp is intended to promote fun, fitness, adventure and education for children of all abilities. Age-appropriate activities are to include field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games.

The cost is $75 a week, and participants are asked to bring their own breakfasts and lunches or pay $90 to have those meals included.

COLOR RUN PLANNED FEB. 28

Tickets for the Color Run Las Vegas are on sale. The race is set for 8 a.m. Feb. 28 at 650 Fremont St. The Color Run’s focus is about enjoying a color-crazy day. A portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to Three Square food bank.

BIG GAME RACES PLANNED DOWNTOWN

Registration is open for the Big Game 10K in downtown Las Vegas, planned for 8 a.m. Feb. 1.

The event is to celebrate the biggest weekend of the year in football and is to include a 5K run, a community walk and kids’ dashes. The races are set to start in a staggered order behind the Container Park on Carson Avenue and Seventh Street. A prerace kickoff party is planned on Jan. 30.

COOPERATIVE EXTENSION OFFERS JUNIOR GARDENING CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program is available for children ages 7 to 12. Kids can experience hands-on gardening activities while learning about plants, water, soil, veggies and more.

The 4-H program is an eight-session-per-semester class with a fee of $52. Classes are planned from 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday. For the north part of the valley, classes are planned at the Research Center & Demonstration Orchard, 4600 Horse Drive. In the south part of the valley, classes are planned at the Lifelong Learning Center’s Outdoor Education Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

USTA-NEVADA OFFERS FREE TENNIS LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

The United States Tennis Association-Nevada is offering free tennis lessons to players of all ages. Participants are asked to visit ustanevada.com to complete the registration form. They will be emailed a certificate to take a free tennis lesson at any of the participating facilities.

Free loaner tennis rackets are available through USTA-Nevada’s Racquet Recycle Program. Everyone who registers will receive a free Nevada Tennis Association membership, which includes a newsletter and special invitations to community tennis events.

FENCING CAMPS PLANNED BY RED ROCK FENCING CENTER

Introduction to Fencing Camps for ages 5 to 9 and 9 to 15 are planned from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Red Rock Fencing Center, 8352 W. Warm Springs Road.

Participants will learn sportsmanship, the art and skill of fencing and have fun in the process. Fencing teaches focus, determination, coordination and thinking skills. Participants should bring lunch, but equipment will be supplied.

Camp fees are $200 per week, with an early drop-off fee of $20 per day from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m. The camp offers a 20 percent discount for siblings.

CENTENNIAL HILLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER OFFERS WEEKLY SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, offers weekly fitness classes for active adults 50 or older from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays.

Classes include card and game activities, crafts, dance and fitness. The yearly membership is $2 and includes access to all activities, though some may have additional fees.
