Spirit Airlines to launch Las Vegas-New Orleans service

Deep-discount air carrier Spirit Airlines will launch its 20th destination from Las Vegas in November, offering nonstop round trips to and from New Orleans, the company announced Wednesday.

Departures from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport leave at 7 a.m., arriving at McCarran International Airport at 8:50 a.m. Flights from Las Vegas leave McCarran at 7:50 p.m., arriving in New Orleans at 1:15 a.m., the next day.

The Miramar, Fla.-based airline currently has 28 daily flights to Las Vegas and has been one of the fastest-growing domestic air carriers at McCarran over the past five years.

New Orleans service will begin Nov. 13.

The company says its fares run about 40 percent below competitors, but it also charges extra for additional services on an a la carte basis.

Spirit will compete on the route with Southwest Airlines, which has two daily nonstops between Las Vegas and New Orleans.
