Valley nonprofit groups produce array of handcrafted items as fundraisers

Although the heat lingers, it's time to plan your strategy for visiting holiday and craft bazaars -- and we're here to help. The Review-Journal's annual list of craft bazaars, festivals and events gives valley residents the opportunity to do their holiday shopping while supporting local nonprofit organizations and charities in the process.

SATURDAY

Green Valley Presbyterian Church's Gingerbread Fair and Pantry, featuring handmade fall and holiday decorations, jewelry, embroidered linens, floral arrangements, kitchen items, angels and bears, baked goods and other items, will run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. Proceeds benefit the church and Las Vegas Valley mission projects.

Sandy Valley Culturati will have a fall festival 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Keystone Center, 115 Miami St., Sandy Valley. An arts and crafts sale featuring knitted and crocheted items, handmade jewelry, jams and jellies, candy, drawings and craft demonstrations, will run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There also will be food available for donations, live music and dancing from 4 to 8 p.m., and hay rides offered throughout the evening. Proceeds benefit the group's community projects.

OCT. 15

Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., will have a fall festival and craft expo 4-8 p.m. Oct. 15 and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 16. The event will feature holiday and year-round crafts and gifts for the home, food, drawings, a live and silent auction, and entertainment. On Oct. 15, there will be a pasta dinner 4:30-6:15 p.m., followed by a Celebrity City Chorus concert. Admission to the craft expo is free. The pasta dinner and concert are $8. Proceeds benefit the church's outreach ministries, including Water for Life, El Salvador Mission and Angel Tree.

OCT. 16

Opportunity Village Project Enable's fall festival and craft fair, featuring homemade crafts including jewelry, handmade aprons, candles, woodworking items, baby quilts, food and a drawing, among other things, will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Kitty Rodman Building on the Ralph and Betty Engelstad Campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive off Russell Road. Proceeds benefit therapeutic horseback riding and activities for special needs individuals.

Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, will have its annual lobster fair featuring arts and crafts, a silent and live auction, food, drawings and entertainment, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the church.

St. Margaret's Guild of All Saints' Episcopal Church, 4201 W. Washington Ave., will have a bazaar featuring handmade items, baked goods and a book sale, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the church's outreach program.

OCT. 17

The Dorcas Circle ladies group of University United Methodist Church, 4412 S. Maryland Parkway, will have a patio sale featuring handmade crafts, holiday items, baked goods, greeting cards, white elephants and other items, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Proceeds benefit the church's mission-related projects, which include Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Safe Nest and Camp Potosi.

OCT. 23

The Crafty Ladies of Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will have their annual fall festival and holiday bazaar featuring handmade items including quilts, wreaths, banners, ornaments, handbags and totes, jewelry and baked goods, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall. Proceeds benefit the church for remodeling and repairs.

NOV. 5

Moapa Valley Art Guild will have its annual Pomegranate Art Festival featuring arts and crafts, pomegranates, pomegranate jelly and a variety of food items, children's activities, drawings, pomegranate food demonstrations, artist demonstrations and entertainment, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 5 and 6 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, 1301 W. Whipple St., Logandale. Proceeds benefit college scholarship funds.

NOV. 6

The Women of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church will have their annual holiday craft fair featuring handmade crafts, a book sale, bake sale, drawings, cookie room and food cafe, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 6 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 7 at 7260 W. Sahara Ave. Proceeds benefit the church, Poverello House and other charities.

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill Lane, will have its Sip n' Shop fundraiser featuring handcrafted jewelry, purses, handmade quilts and layette items, specialty teas, coffees and chocolates, among other things, 2-4:30 p.m. Admission is $10, and includes light refreshments. Proceeds benefit the church's ministries and Living Grace, a home for pregnant, unwed teens.

The Children's Service Guild Holiday Boutique, featuring Christmas wreaths, tree ornaments, handmade quilts, baby blankets, pet items, and fall and Thanksgiving crafts, will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 4100 W. Charleston Blvd. Proceeds benefit Child Haven and children whose lives have been touched by Family Court Services.

The Women's Missionary League of Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 6220 N. Jones Blvd., will have its holiday craft bazaar featuring handmade holiday gifts, ornaments, decorations, jewelry, clothing, greeting cards, candles, baked goods and other items, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the women's group, which donates funds to national and international projects in support of hospitals and schools.

The Las Vegas PALS will have a "Craft +" event featuring handmade baby items, jewelry, gift baskets, baked goods, greeting cards, glass items, hats and drawings, among other things, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Paradise Valley Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 3800 S. Decatur Blvd. Proceeds benefit the organization.

NOV. 12

The Mesquite Club will have a Kris Kringle Mart featuring specialty crafts, homemade goods and baked goods, as well as a luncheon 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mesquite Club clubhouse, 702 E. St. Louis Ave. Admission is $10, and the fee for the luncheon also is $10. Proceeds benefit the women's group's charitable projects.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 101 S. Rancho Drive, will have its annual holiday craft and gift market featuring holiday designs and interior home decorations, arts and crafts, gifts, baked goods, specialty foods, pottery, stained glass, woodwork and other items, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13. A barbecue dinner will be served 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 13. Proceeds benefit the church's ministries.

NOV. 13

The Vegas Viking Lodge 6-152 Sons of Norway will have its annual Scandinavian holiday bazaar featuring Scandinavian holiday items, rosemaled calendars, a Grannie's Attic with gently used holiday items and crafts, and baked goods including lefse bread, among other things, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave. Proceeds benefit the organization's scholarship fund.

The Women's Society of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 4275 N. Rancho Drive, Suite 125, will have its annual holiday boutique and craft fair featuring quilts, jewelry, holiday ornaments and cards, handcrafted home decor, wood crafts, baked goods, a cake walk, silent auction and drawings, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the parish's building fund.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church will have its annual holiday arts and craft sale featuring crocheted, knitted and sewed handmade items including afghans, aprons, hats, slippers and baby quilts, beaded angels, lighted trees, snowmen, ornaments, baked goods and other items, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14 in the church's hall at 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Proceeds benefit the church's building fund.

The Women's Guild of St. Viator Catholic Church will have its annual holiday bazaar featuring holiday items, arts and crafts, drawings, a food court, cookbooks, a cake walk and children's area, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 13 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Parish Center at 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Proceeds benefit the parish.

Daughters of the Nile, El Giza Temple No. 139, will have a bazaar and baked goods sale featuring handcrafted items, jewelry, baked goods and candy, food and other items, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14 at the Zelzah Shrine Center, 2222 W. Mesquite Ave. Proceeds benefit the women's group's general fund.

The Community Affairs Committee of the Flamingo West Manufactured Homes Community will have an arts and crafts show featuring an assortment of knitted items, handmade baby blankets, bibs, aprons, cloth books, washcloth puppets, Christmas ornaments, dolls, floral arrangements, soy candles and other items, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the community's clubhouse, 8122 W. Flamingo Road. Proceeds assist the disadvantaged residents of the senior park.

NOV. 18

The Evening Chapter of the Mesquite Club will have its annual holiday craft auction featuring handmade items including fall crafts, wreaths and quilts, among other things, at 6 p.m. at the Mesquite Club clubhouse, 702 E. St. Louis Ave. The auction also will include drawings for prizes including a decorated tree donated by Ralph Jones Display. Admission is $20 and includes a dinner buffet and beverages. Proceeds benefit the club's scholarship program and AL's Closet.

NOV. 19

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1730 N. Pecos Road, will have its Country Crafters Fair featuring baked goods, crafted items including jewelry, crocheted and knitted items, Christmas decorations, homemade rugs, baby items, a children's craft booth, homemade jellies, jams and candies and other items, noon-5 p.m. Nov. 19 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 20. Proceeds benefit improving the church's preschool facilities.

NOV. 20

Women's Auxiliary "The Vine" of Mountain View Presbyterian Church will have a holiday market and cafe featuring holiday decorations, kitchen items, gift baskets, baked goods and other items, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at 8601 Del Webb Blvd. The cafe will offer breakfast items and refreshments. Proceeds benefit Family Promise of Las Vegas.

The Marthas and Marys of St. John Neumann Catholic Church will have a fall craft show and bake sale featuring handmade holiday items, gift baskets, children's items and baked goods, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 21 at 2575 W. El Campo Grande Ave., North Las Vegas. Proceeds benefit the women's group's charitable projects.

St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, will have its annual fall holiday craft sale featuring handmade aprons, afghans, scarves and hats, Thanksgiving and Christmas items, religious items and baked goods, 2-7 p.m. Nov. 20 and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 21 as well as 2-7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 12. Proceeds benefit the parish's projects.

Faith Lutheran High School Grad Nite Live will have its annual Crusader Christmas Boutique featuring jewelry, specialty food items, home goods, clothing, a bake sale and drawing, among other things, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the student center at Faith Lutheran Junior-Senior High School, 2015 S. Hualapai Way. Proceeds benefit Grad Night Live, an alcohol- and drug-free all-night graduation celebration for the high school's seniors.

NOV. 21

The Women's League of Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane, will have its annual "A Hanukkah Happening" event featuring handmade and knitted items, jewelry, purses, arts and crafts for children, and other items, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Proceeds benefit the women's group in its support of Temple Beth Sholom and its schools.

DEC. 4

The Boulder City Community Club will have its 36th annual Doodlebug Bazaar featuring handmade and handcrafted items including quilts, candles and soaps, baby items, jewelry, Christmas decorations and other items, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Boulder City Recreation Center, 900 Arizona St. Proceeds benefit local nonprofit groups and organizations in Boulder City.

The Los Prados Women's Club will have a craft show featuring jewelry, copper art, items for dogs, rock candles, jam and jelly preserves, candy and other items, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 5150 Los Prados Circle. Proceeds benefit Family Promise, Veteran's Ladder and Three Square.

DEC. 11

The Just Sew Club will have a Christmas craft sale featuring items such as place mats, Santa hat chair covers, wine bottle covers, Christmas ornaments, tea cozies, closet organizers, grocery bag holders, and adult and children's aprons, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mountain Shadows Community Center, 9107 Del Webb Blvd. Proceeds go to supplies for the charities the club supports.

The Lakes Festival of Lights Arts & Crafts Show will feature handmade crafts noon-5 p.m. in an area south of Sahara Avenue between Durango Drive and Fort Apache Road, at the intersection of Lake East Drive and Lake Sahara Drive. Proceeds will be distributed among the music programs of participating schools, including Hyde Park Middle School, Lawrence Junior High School Jazz Band, Palo Verde High School, Leavitt Middle School and Christensen Elementary School, as well as local charities that participate including Toys for Tots, Foreclosed Upon Pets and The Salvation Army.
