City National Bank volunteers create mural at school

Jydstrup Elementary School, 5150 Duneville St., will always remember Kameron Asgari.

The fifth-grader died in December, and the school commemorated him in a mural painted by volunteers this month in the school's main hallway.

City National Bank employees volunteered Aug. 18 to paint the mural, designed by Bishop Gorman High School junior Zach Telles. City National Bank has sponsored Jydstrup for the past decade, donating school supplies and other items when the school needs help, said principal David Frydman.

The mural was originally conceived to represent "community and diversity."

"We have 37 different languages spoken at our school," Frydman said. "It's a unique population right here."

After Kameron's death, the school got his family's blessing to paint his name in the mural.

City National Bank previously had painted a jungle-themed mural in the school's multipurpose room. It, along with every wall in the school, was painted over when the school was renovated two years ago.
