Rancho High gets top honor for developing Latino leaders
Rancho High School was recognized this week as the top high school in the nation for “fostering future Latino community leaders.”
The honor for the Las Vegas school by the National Hispanic Institute was announced Thursday by Principal James Kuzma.
“Congratulations to the entire Rancho community on this special recognition,” Kuzma wrote in an email. “I could not be more proud to serve as principal of Rancho High School.”
The school will be honored during the National Hispanic Institute Alumni Awards banquet in San Marcos, Texas, in November.
Almost 75 percent of the school’s 3,235 students from the 2016-17 academic year were Hispanic, according to state Department of Education data. About 10 percent of the student body is white, 8 percent black, 4 percent Asian and about 3 percent are two or more races.
