Transgender bathroom ruling not affecting Clark County School District for now
The Clark County School District has no formal policy on how to accommodate transgender students, so Monday’s ruling by a federal judge in Texas appears to have no immediate impact on the use of bathrooms and locker rooms in public schools here.
The school district, though, does work with families and principals to handle cases individually as they arise on campuses.
Transgender rights advocates argue that patchwork approach offers children and their parents no guaranteed protection and violates the state’s public accommodations law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression.
As of late Monday night, the district had not released a statement regarding the blocking of the Obama administration’s order that requires allowing transgender students use of those facilities consistent with their chosen gender identity.
