October 26, 2015 - 6:30 am
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash early Monday morning on the 215 Beltway near Aliante Parkway.
According to NHP Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel, a Chevy Impala westbound on the 215 Beltway just after 1:30 a.m. crossed the center median, struck construction sand barrels and entered the eastbound lanes.
The Chevy then collided head-on with a Jeep eastbound on the 215 east of Aliante Parkway.
The male driver of the Chevy died at the scene. The passenger in the Jeep was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was arrested on charges of DUI although was not at fault for the incident, Steunkel said.
A third vehicle collided with the Chevy causing the Chevy to catch fire.
The driver of another car stopped to help at the crash and their car was rear-ended. No one was injured in that crash.
Eastbound lanes were closed for several hours, but have since reopened.
