A fatal crash at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Rainbow Boulevard may have resulted from a medical episode and is being investigated by Las Vegas police.
First responders were called to the crash at 8:15 a.m., Metro spokesman officer Jesse Roybal said. A 71-year-old man died after running his GMC Sierra into the trailer of a Sterling Acterra semi-truck.
The man was driving south on Rainbow toward Flamingo intersection, police said, before veering onto the shoulder and side-swiping a Toyota Prius.
He continued driving and hit the back of the trailer towed by the semi-truck, police said. The man was taken to Spring Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An initial investigation determined that the crash may have been due to a medical episode, Roybal said.
Metro is not yet counting the crash as a traffic-related fatality, according to a news release. The crash is being investigated by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
