11- and 14-year-old boys face arson charges after Henderson fire

Two boys, ages 11 and 14, face arson charges after a pair of cars and a garage were destroyed in a Henderson fire.

Firefighters were called about 6:45 p.m. Monday to the 400 block of Jefferson Boulevard, a residential area near East Sunset Road and North Boulder Highway, the Henderson Fire Department said in a release Wednesday. There they found a detached garage and two vehicles engulfed in flames. The rest of the property is abandoned.

The first engine to arrive extinguished the fire quickly, but the garage and cars were a total loss, the release said. Damage was estimated at $85,000.

One person was treated and released for smoke inhalation. No other injuries resulted from the blaze and no one was displaced, the department said.

The fire is still under investigation. The two boys, who did not know the owners of the vehicles, were arrested on one count each of second degree arson. They were booked at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.

Fire investigators believe the fire was intentionally set, Henderson spokeswoman Michelle French said Wednesday.
