14- year-old sexually assaulted, locked in bedroom, police report states

A 14-year-old girl North Las Vegas police say was kidnapped from Arizona told officers she woke up in Las Vegas after smoking marijuana given to her by the man accused of sexually assaulting her, according to an arrest report released Monday.

The man gave her the drug after offering her a ride, the report said.

After smoking, "all of the sudden, she became very sleepy and stated she fell asleep," the report said.

Jimmy Carter Kim, 26, then drove her to his house in the 1100 block of Dawn Valley, near Washburn Road and Camino Al Norte.

For about a month, until the girl was able to escape Thursday evening, Kim kept her locked in a bedroom of the two-story house when he wasn't there, police said. He showed her a gun and told her she was under camera surveillance.

When she was locked in the room, the girl had to go to the bathroom in a bucket and Kim would leave music playing, police said.

When he was home, Kim sexually and physically assaulted the girl, police said. He took photos and once tied her up. She was able to leave the room to wash dishes and her clothes, but he would stand by her the entire time.

Kim became more aggressive and the girl was "scared to fight him off," she told police.

On Thursday, the girl told police, she was able to unlock the door with a pair of scissors and use a cell phone inside the house to call friends and family. She left the house and ran to a Green Valley Grocery Store at 5225 Camino Al Norte where police were called. She was hospitalized and has since been returned to Arizona.

Police were conducting surveillance on Kim when they pulled him over and arrested him about 10 p.m. — five hours after they found the girl — in the area of Sandstone Ridge Park, where Washburn turns into Hammer Lane, police said.

The girl ran away from home Nov. 3 and was approached by Kim while she was walking to a friend's house in Arizona. Police did not disclose what city. Kim pulled up in a white van and offered her a ride she initially declined.

Kim was "persistent" and she eventually agreed, got inside the van and smoked marijuana from a pipe he gave her, police said.

Arizona authorities told North Las Vegas police the girl was not a habitual runaway.

The girl woke up when Kim was driving in Las Vegas. He told her to look at him while he drove.

When questioned by police, Kim said that he had met the girl in Las Vegas about a week and a half before the arrest and "wanted to be a good citizen so he took her in and let her stay with him," according to the report. He admitted to locking her in the room so she wouldn't "steal anything," but denied any sexual contact or recently being in Arizona.

Kim's father, 75-year-old Dennis Kim, told the Review-Journal on Saturday that his son would bring multiple girlfriends to the house — at least two in the past month. He said that a day before the arrest, he saw a person in his son's room through a cracked door, but only noticed feet and heard music.

His son apologized to the elder Kim, who did not allow people in his house when the son wasn't there, and told him it was his girlfriend.

He had seen two of his son's "girlfriends" in the past month and said it didn't appear as though any of them were 14 years old or there against their will.

The younger Kim made an appearance in court Monday and is being held on a $680,000 bail, according to North Las Vegas Justice Court. He's facing one count of kidnapping and multiple counts of sexual abuse.

Police are trying to determine if there are more victims. "In these cases, it's highly unlikely that this is the first and only incident where this person would commit crimes like this," North Las Vegas police Officer Steven Wiese said in a Saturday press conference.
