17-year-old critical after being struck by minivan
A 17-year-old pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday evening after he was hit by a minivan in the west valley, according to Las Vegas police.
The Las Vegas teenager was crossing the street near Charleston and Rainbow boulevards outside of a crosswalk when a 2003 Chevrolet Astro van struck him about 5 p.m., police said.
He was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.
No arrests were reported and the van’s occupants, including the 66-year-old driver from Las Vegas, remained at the scene, police said.
The accident remains under investigation.
On Wednesday evening, officers from Metro’s traffic bureau, citing the 31 pedestrian deaths in their jurisdiction on 2014, hosted a pedestrian safety demonstration.
They explained precautions to follow to easily avoid pedestrian crashes.
