2 killed in early morning highway accident

Two men are dead after a crash on U.S. Highway 95 north of the valley Sunday morning.

Northbound lanes of the highway were closed near Corn Creek, about 30 miles north of the city of Las Vegas. The crash occurred just after 7 a.m.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Jeremie Elliott said a man driving a silver Acura was going the wrong way on the northbound lanes and had a head-on collision with a Subaru driven by another man.

Both men died on the scene.

U.S. 95 was closed for hours, Elliott said, and traffic was being diverted at Snow Mountain onto State Route 157 and around Mount Charleston. The highway reopened about 11:30 a.m.

Troopers have not determined why the man in the Acura was driving the wrong way, and are still investigating the scene. Witnesses who claim to have seen the man driving said it looked like he was driving the wrong way intentionally and that the crash appeared to be a suicide.

The men’s identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once their families have been notified.
