2 people in custody after SWAT call to central valley apartments

Two people are in custody after an auto theft Wednesday afternoon prompted the evacuation of a west valley apartment complex, according to Las Vegas police.

Metro was initially called about 1:30 p.m. to a car theft in the 10700 block of Tottenham Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and the 215 Beltway, police said.

A female and male were arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle, one of whom was taken into custody about 2:45 p.m. at a nearby WalMart.

An investigation of the theft led officers to the Budget Suites apartments near Rancho Drive and Smoke Ranch Road.

SWAT evacuated the complex while they searched two apartments for possible additional suspects, Metro spokesman Lt. Will Huddler said.

Police had the female and male in custody before the evacuation took place, Huddler emphasized. There was no barricade and no other suspects were arrested after the apartments were searched.

Residents were allowed back inside their apartments before 5:15 p.m.
