The woman who was airlifted to a Reno hospital after a crash Saturday night in Northern Nevada was the wife of Nevada Assemblyman Paul Anderson, the politician said Sunday.
April Anderson and the couple’s four kids were traveling U.S. Highway 50 on their way to Carson City to meet the assemblyman and participate in the opening ceremony for the Nevada Legislature on Monday.
An SUV pulled out in front of the family’s car about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverboat Road, about 30 miles south of Reno, and the SUV was T-boned, Anderson said Sunday.
Both cars overturned, Nevada Highway Patrol said Saturday night.
Anderson was in Carson City, about 17 miles away, and arrived at the wreck in time to accompany his family to the hospital.
“I’m sure you could imagine my fear as I saw both vehicles completely totaled and one car on its side,” he said.
April Anderson was airlifted to Renown Hospital in Reno and the couple’s four kids, 11, 14, 16 and 18 years old, were taken there by ambulance.
“I’m happy to report my family is home and safe and amazingly only suffered bumps and bruises,” Anderson said. The family is in Carson City and will attend the legislature’s opening day as planned, he said.
Anderson said he was told that the occupants in the other vehicle didn’t sustain serious injuries, and he expressed his gratitude for the service first responders and hospital staff provided his family.
