Bicyclist dies after being struck by two vehicles

An 18-year-old bicyclist was killed Wednesday after being run down by two vehicles.

Las Vegas police said the man, who was not identified, was attempting to ride across Fort Apache Road at the Flamingo Road intersection about 8:30 p.m.

A 2010 Toyota Scion TC driven by 19-year-old Julia Rivera clipped the rear tire of the bicycle, throwing the rider into the path of a 1999 Ford Explorer.

The rider died at the scene. His identity will be released by the county coroner's office.

Neither Rivera nor the driver of the Ford, 46-year-old Todd Cooks, was injured.

This was the ninth traffic fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year.
