BLM seeks comment today on proposed Red Rock biking trail

The federal Bureau of Land Management is collecting ideas and comment about a proposed bicycle and walking trail between the entrance and exit of the 13-Mile Scenic Drive at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

A BLM spokeswoman says an open house from noon to 7 p.m. today at the Red Rock Canyon visitor center will include short overview presentations at 2 and 6 p.m.

Officials are collecting comments about proposals for aligning the trail parallel to state Route 159, as well as surface design and trailhead locations.

An environmental report is expected in early 2012, with future plans calling for lengthening the trail to Las Vegas.

Conservation area entry fees will be waived at the entrance fee booths for open house participants.
