Caesars Palace evacuated briefly after investigation of suspicious item at CinemaCon

Keanu Reeves, David Copperfield, Jesse Eisenberg and thousands of attendees at a private movie screening during CinemaCon on Thursday afternoon were in the auditorium at Caesars Palace when a suspicious item prompted an evacuation.

The screening of “Now You See Me 2” started at 2:30 p.m. Police were called just 30 minutes later, Metro officer Jesse Roybal said. The actors and magician presented just after the event’s start time.

Police could not say what the item was, but declared the scene at the movie theater convention screening clear at about 4 p.m.

Caesars Entertainment Corp. spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish described the evacuation as orderly and said it was done “out of an abundance of caution.”

About an hour after the scene was cleared, Eisenberg and stars started to align outside nearby Omnia nightclub and inside Caesars Palace for the CinemaCon “Big Screen Achievement Awards.”

The awards wrapped up the four-day convention and trade show.
