Cashman teacher faces charges of luring, kidnapping child

A 28-year-old Cashman Middle School teacher was arrested last week on charges of kidnapping and luring a mentally ill child younger than 14 years old for a sexual act.

Mikhial Lerma was arrested Thursday on seven counts, including three counts of lewdness with a child under age 14 and one count each of luring a mentally ill child to engage in a sex act, first-degree kidnapping, child abuse and neglect and burglary, Las Vegas police records show.

Lerma is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

His lawyer, Michael Becker, did not immediately return a call requesting comment.

The Clark County School District confirmed having a teacher of that name on staff at Cashman, near Desert Inn Road and Decatur Boulevard. His history with the district was not immediately available.

A status check in the case is set for Wednesday before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman.

Parents with concerns about their child’s interactions with Lerma should call the sexual assault section at 702-828-3421. To remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-5555 or on the Internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
