CCSD: Report of attempted kidnapping of elementary student was false

An attempted kidnapping reported by a North Las Vegas elementary school student Monday afternoon did not actually happen, according to the Clark County School District.

A young Jesse D. Scott Elementary School student said a man tried to kidnap him from a park on his way home from school Monday afternoon, the boy's school wrote in a letter sent home to parents Tuesday afternoon.

According to school district officials, the boy told his mother when he got home, and she contacted police and called the school's principal early Tuesday. The message was shared with neighboring Carroll M. Johnston Middle School as a precaution.

"Detectives from the North Las Vegas Police Department investigated the matter and determined it was a false report," school officials wrote in follow-up letters Wednesday.

"Although we are pleased to know that an attempted abduction did not take place, we are sorry that the letter we sent out contained inaccurate information that was based on what we had been told," the letters read.
