Children OK after school bus strikes pickup in central Las Vegas

No one was injured in a crash involving a school bus and a truck Wednesday morning on Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

The crash happened in the middle of the intersection, affecting traffic. All lanes are now open.

The crash happened about 6:20 a.m. and four students were on the bus, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

“Kids are all OK,” Metro Lt. David Gordon said. Another school bus picked up the students and took them to school.

Police said a man driving a Ford pickup truck was turning left from Washington onto northbound MLK. He failed to yield right of way to the bus, causing the collision. Impairment does not appear to be a factor, Gordon said.

None of the students or drivers reported injuries, police said.

Brenda Rojas said her 12-year-old son, a Cashman Middle School student, was on the bus. He called her about the crash.

“I’m very glad that the kids are OK,” Rojas said.

All lanes re-opened about 8:45 a.m.
