Collision at Rancho and Torrey Pines drives kills man, injures woman

An 81-year-old Las Vegas man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on northbound Rancho and Torrey Pines drives, Las Vegas police said.

Witness statements, and evidence at the scene, indicate the elderly man was driving a 2004 Saturn south on Torrey Pines Drive, and stopped for the stop sign at Rancho Drive. A 2008 Toyota RAV4 driven by 39-year-old Jennifer Hornyak of Las Vegas was traveling north on Rancho Drive in the center travel lane, south of Torrey Pines drive.

As the Toyota approached Torrey Pines Drive, the Saturn entered the northbound travel lanes of Rancho Drive, and was struck by the Toyota, according to police.

The Saturn driver, whose name was not released pending family notification, was taken to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced dead. This was the 115th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The collision is under investigation. Additional details were not immediately available.
