Coroner identifies pedestrian killed after being struck by pickup truck

The pedestrian killed when he was struck by a pickup Thursday morning has been identified.

David Williams, 66, was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office. He died of multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.

Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, the Metropolitan Police Department received a report of a collision near the intersection of Sahara and Burnham avenues, police said.

Metro said the pickup, a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by 36-year-old Victor Rivera-Gonzalez, was traveling east on Sahara while Williams was crossing near the intersection with Burnham.

Williams was struck by the front of the truck, police said. Rivera-Gonzalez left the scene initially, but returned and passed field sobriety tests, police said.

Rivera-Gonzalez was arrested on one charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death. It is unclear whether Williams was crossing at a marked crosswalk.

Metro said Williams’ death was the 64th traffic-related death in its jurisdiction in 2016.
