Coroner IDs 2 Las Vegas children killed in car fire

The two children killed in a vehicle fire Sunday night in an east valley apartment complex have been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Jermiaya Thomas, 3 and Kendricik Jerome Chism, 1, both of Las Vegas, were two out of four children who were playing in or around the car when the fire broke out, Las Vegas police said.

The children were being supervised when one of them started the fire, police said.

The other two children escaped unharmed and called for help.

Police and firefighters responded to the Arcadia Palms apartments, 3655 E. Sahara Ave., near Boulder Highway, where they found what was described by neighbors as an older-model minivan engulfed in flames.

The car was not running when it caught fire, police said, and many people in the complex tried to extinguish the fire.

The incident was ruled accidental by police and no charges will be filed.
