Coroner IDs Las Vegas man who died in hit-and-run

A Las Vegas man who died Thursday after he tried to chase down a driver and got run over in the process has been identified.

He is 27-year-old Michael Richards, the Clark County coroner's office said Friday.

Witnesses told police Richards and Christopher Sacca, 40, had been in an argument about 5 p.m. in 9100 block of Quiet Cove Way, a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads.

Sacca got in a Ford Excursion and started driving away, police said, but Richards grabbed onto the driver's side of the SUV.

Richards couldn't hold on, witnesses told police, and he fell and was run over by the Excursion.

Sacca didn't stop, Metro said. Police later picked him up at his house. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on felony DUI and hit and run charges.

If convicted on a hit-and-run charge, Sacca will face between two and 20 years in prison due to a change in Nevada law that went into effect Oct. 1.
