Coroner rules baby’s death in December a homicide

The death of a 4-month-old girl who spent two weeks at a Las Vegas hospital and died in December was ruled a homicide, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

Aralee Jo Ballance, who was 4 months and 27 days old at the time of her death on Dec. 29, died from "complications of non-accidental injury," the coroner's office said Saturday. Her death was ruled a homicide.

On Dec. 15, emergency medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive child, according to Clark County officials. Aralee was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

The Clark County Department of Family Services was notified of the initial incident on Dec. 15 and notified of the fatality on Dec. 30, the county said in December.

The family of Aralee, who was an only child, had one prior report of alleged abuse, which was in August. Family Services said in December that the allegation was unsubstantiated and the case was closed.
