Coroner’s office IDs man killed outside Vegas gym

Neil Brian Gandler parked his car at a 24 Hour Fitness Monday night and never left.

He was shot and killed there three hours later.

On Thursday, Las Vegas police released a video of a car they said the suspected assailants fled in after the early Tuesday morning slaying.

Gandler, 42, identified by the Clark County coroner's office, pulled into the parking lot at 601 S. Rainbow Blvd. at about 10 p.m. It is not clear what he did over the next few hours, but police say he did not enter the gym.

At 1 a.m., a two-door coupe, believed to be a mid 2000s model with a spoiler and non-tinted windows, pulled next to Gandler's car. Ten minutes later, Gandler's car, with a shattered driver's side window, rolled onto a parking median, police said.

Police said they believe there were at least two assailants in the coupe, and neither has been identified.

Coroner's office staff said Gandler, from Palo Alto, Calif., died from a gunshot wound to the torso. His death was ruled a homicide.

A motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, police said.
