Logan Branscum and Jacob Lescenski were named 2012 Nevada State Junior Bassmaster Champions on July 14 at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. They will represent Nevada at the Western Divisional at Clear Lake in Northern California next May, when they will have a chance to qualify for the 2013 Junior Bassmaster World Championships.

Logan, 15, will be a freshman at Boulder City High School in the fall. He is the son of Danny Branscum and Christina Branscum, of Henderson.

Jacob, 14, who will be a freshman at Desert Oasis High School in the fall, competed in the BASS Castingkids National Championship in 2008, finishing fifth and receiving a $500 college scholarship. He won the BASS Castingkids State Championship that year. Jacob is the son of Joe Lescenski and Kim Lescenski of Las Vegas.

Matthew Perry, 13, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America. A member of Troop 34, Matthew constructed 25 wooden toy boxes for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program for his Eagle project. Local SOS Radio Station partnered with Perry, promoting a toy drive to fill the toy boxes.

Matthew enjoys playing the trombone with the Las Vegas Youth Symphony Orchestra, building LEGO creations and participating in scouting camps and activities.He is the son of Michael and LaTricia Perry of Las Vegas.

Addison "Addi" Melone, 9, performed in a three-minute basketball exhibition at halftime of the Los Angeles Lakers-Golden State Warriors summer league game on July 13. One of 15 children - and the only girl - offered this opportunity, she scored four points. Addison trains with the Vegas Bulldogs basketball team from Centennial High School, and she graduated from the Summer Skills Clinic for the Harlem Globetrotters. A fourth-grader at Twitchell Elementary School, she was named to the A/B honor roll for the last semester. Addison is the daughter of Mark and Jill Melone of Henderson.

Amanda Han, 14, won a fifth-place national fencing medal at the United States Fencing Association National Championships in the Youth 14 women's epee event. This was her third national medal.

Amanda is the daughter of Nicholas and Monica Han. She'll be a freshman at Bishop Gorman High School in the fall.
