Robbie Peccole, 11, has been selected to attend the 2013 Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., in March. A fifth-grader at Dean Allen Elementary School, he was nominated for selection by his teacher, Joy Hollander, for his academic achievements and leadership qualities.

During the six-day program, students take part in educational activities and presentations and explore relevant sites such as Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia and D.C.’s museums and memorials.

Dusty Smock has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2012 graduate of Liberty High School, Smock is the grandson of Vicki Cameron of Henderson.

London Tiner has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2012 graduate of the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson, Tiner is the son of Constance Drake of Hermitage, Tenn.

Paul Canson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2012 graduate of Southwest Career and Technical Academy, Canson is the son of Avie and Vermon Obiniana of Las Vegas.

Justin Almazan, 17, has achieved Eagle status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 363, he collected food and toiletries for the homeless at Catholic Charities for his Eagle project.

A senior at Clark High School, Almazan plays baseball and basketball and is a member of the marching band, Key Club and Robotics Club. He hopes to pursue a career in physics. Almazan is the son of Theresa Almazan of Las Vegas.

Andrew “AJ” Black, 18, has achieved Eagle status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 0011, he performed landscaping work at Acacia Demonstration Gardens for his Eagle project.

A senior at Foothill High School, he enjoys computer games in his spare time.

He hopes to pursue a business degree and join the Army.

Black is the son of John and Allyson Black of Henderson.
