Favorite Sons & Daughters June 4-10

Juliana and Lindsey Remark, 18, have received the Barbara Malloy Memorial Leadership Service Award from Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas.

The award recognizes young women who have proven volunteer leadership and service to their community.

The twin sisters, seniors at Bishop Gorman High School, founded two charities, Twice as Nice, which recycles formal wear for proms in partnership with Rancho High School, and Spread the Cheer/Got Game, a cheer clinic at the Trenz Youth Center in North Las Vegas.

They are the daughters of Richard and Deanna Remark of Las Vegas.

Nathan Cain, 13, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 22, Cain installed a flagpole at a church for his Eagle project.

A seventh-grader at Burkholder Middle School, he is a member of the basketball team, the National Junior Honor Society and the jazz band. He enjoys playing piano and hunting and hopes to become a doctor.

Cain is the son of Jonathan and Sanna Cain of Henderson.

Alejandro Corral, 17, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 256, he helped repair the boardwalk at Red Springs in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area for his Eagle project.

A senior at Bishop Gorman High School, Corral is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. He enjoys snowboarding, backpacking, soccer and plans a career in business administration focused on entrepreneurship.

Corral is the son of Alejandro and Araceli Corral of Henderson.

Nicholas Reynolds, 26, has been awarded a Ph.D. in structural engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Reynolds is a 2005 graduate of Palo Verde High School, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and a recipient of the Department of Defense’s S.M.A.R.T Scholarship. He is employed by the U.S. Navy’s Carderock Research Facility in West Bethesda, Md. Reynolds is the son of Tim and Lisa Reynolds of Las Vegas.

Ashley McConnell of Henderson received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

Caitlin Perry of Henderson received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

Laura Warner of Las Vegas received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a history minor from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

New country music fest coming to Vegas

Saddle up Vegas country fans, a new fest is riding into town this fall. The Giddy Up Music Festival will be city’s first country fest since 1 October.
