Justin Joseph has been selected by the Commission of Presidential Scholars.

A senior at Valley High School, he is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program.

As a junior, Joseph scored a perfect score on the ACT test and a near-perfect score on the SAT.

He is a National Merit Scholar for 2013 and has represented his high school and Nevada in many spelling bees, geography bees and debate competitions.

Joseph is an Eagle Scout, serves as president of his school’s chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals, is involved with forensics, National Honor Society and is captain of the varsity quiz team.

He will attend Virginia Commonwealth University’s bachelor of science/doctor of medicine program.

Joseph is the son of Martin and Shyla Joseph of Las Vegas.

Philip “Alex” Wilson has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

Wilson prepared and painted fire hydrants for the city of North Las Vegas for his Eagle project.

Wilson enjoys soccer and archery and plans to attend Boy Scouts of America national youth leadership training in June.

Wilson is the son of Philip and Nicole Wilson of North Las Vegas, grandson of Wayne and Virginia Hall of Las Vegas and great-grandson of Lorena McKeown of Holden, Mo.

Lance Lockwood, 20, graduated April 19 from basic training at Naval Service Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill., where he will now attend A-School.

A 2011 graduate of Desert Junior/Senior High School on Edwards Air Force Base in California, Lockwood is the son of Paul and Jeanette Lockwood of Las Vegas.

Kelsy Babbitt has graduated as an honor graduate from Air Force basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio on April 19.

A 2012 advanced honors graduate of College of Southern Nevada High School West, Babbitt is the daughter of Alman and Dinorah Babbitt of Las Vegas.

Matthew Johnson, 16, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 449, he coordinated the collection of 655 pounds of food for donation to Three Square food bank for his Eagle project.

A sophomore at Coronado High School, he is a member of the basketball and volleyball teams.

Johnson is the son of Scott and Tammy Johnson of Henderson.

Jesus Martinez has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Cheyenne High School, Martinez is the son of Victor Pacheco and Maria Martinez, both of North Las Vegas.

John Collins IV has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

A 2008 graduate of Spring Valley High School, Collins is the son of John Collins III and brother of Doug Collins, both of Las Vegas.

Colton Bennion, a senior at Bonanza High School, collected more than 200 pairs of shoes in April as an Eagle Scout project to benefit Project 150, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless and at-risk youths at 15 high schools in Clark County. The shoes were donated to students at Western High School.

Christian Handyside has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

A 2012 graduate of Del Sol High School, Handyside is the son of Ellen Handyside of Henderson.
