Recreation briefs


The Men’s 4 vs. 4 Advanced Volleyball League for players 16 or older began Nov. 1. Teams may sign up to play from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at the Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave. The cost is $100 per team.

Players must have at least high school varsity volleyball experience.

Team sign-up is for the advanced games only.

Teen Entrepreneurs of Las Vegas (TEOLV) is preparing for its second annual Celebrity Golf Tournament Thursday and Friday at Rhodes Ranch, 20 Rhodes Ranch Parkway.

This event will encompass 144 golfers — 36 foursomes — each with one celebrity competing to win the grand prize. Tee time is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 a.m. followed by a gourmet al fresco luncheon for the attendees.

TEOLV is a nonprofit organization started by Lydia High that encourages the entrepreneurial spirit in Las Vegas teens. Spokesman Gary Payton is a former National Basketball Association All-Star. Minker Adult Racquetball Leagues began Oct. 10 at the Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road. The cost is $5 for members and $25 for nonmembers per league. Games are set from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Nov. 28.

Intermediate/advanced singles play is set for Mondays or Wednesdays, and novice singles play is set for Tuesdays or Thursdays. For more information, call 229-6563.


Registration for Doolittle Community Center’s, 1950 N. J St., annual basketball league is open for students in grades 2-11 through Jan. 3. League play begins Jan. 9, 2012. The cost is $250 per team, plus referee fees per game ($14-$19 per game, depending on division). Scheduled payments will be accepted, but all league registration fees must be paid before the start of league play.
