Female teen in juvenile justice custody arrested after fleeing Sunrise Hospital
A 16-year-old was arrested after she ran away while receiving medical treatment at Sunrise Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, causing a lockdown at the hospital, according to statements from Las Vegas police and Clark County.
At 1:32 p.m., Metro responded to a missing juvenile at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center on the 3100 block of South Maryland Parkway. The girl, a 16-year-old in the custody of Clark County Juvenile Justice Services, was hospitalized Sunday at Desert Parkway Behavioral Health Center. She was taken to Sunrise for medical treatment on Tuesday, said Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling.
While being assessed for treatment, the teen fled the hospital about 2 p.m., Welling wrote in a release.
Juvenile probation officers took the girl into custody just before 8 p.m. The girl has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
It was not immediately clear how the 16-year-old escaped. Welling said Clark County Juvenile Justice Services issued a warrant for the girl’s arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement contradicting police, Sunrise spokesman Brendan Bussman denied the hospital had been placed on lockdown Tuesday.
Welling said county officials will be following up with Desert Parkway to determine more facts about the incident.
