Fire won’t delay IKEA’s May 18 opening in Las Vegas

Firefighters responded to a fire early Saturday afternoon at the soon-to-open IKEA building in the southwest valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Crews responded at 12:15 p.m. to the report of a fire at 6500 IKEA Way, near South Durango Drive and Interstate 215, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan said.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported smoke and flames coming from the roof. Crews located the fire underneath an air conditioning unit, Buchanan said. The fire was extinguished as of 12:45 p.m.

“No store coworkers were in the building, and only minimal construction crews were onsite,” IKEA spokesman Joseph Roth said in a news release Saturday.

The store’s opening date — May 18 — remains unchanged by the incident, the release said.

No injuries were reported, and damages have not been estimated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
