Fires at PT’s Pub, house ruled arson

Two separate fires in the central valley Wednesday have been ruled arson, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Someone started a fire about 10 a.m. in the men’s restroom of a PT’s Pub on West Sahara Avenue, near Decatur Boulevard, the department tweeted just after 4 p.m. Wednesday. The pub was evacuated, and no one was hurt.

When firefighters responded there were no flames, only light smoke, and damage was confined to the restroom.

Fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said it appeared that someone lit a roll of toilet paper on fire. There are no suspects in the fire, which caused $10,000 in damage, the department said.

Firefighters responded to another fire about 2:15 p.m. outside a home at 1205 Phillips Ave., near East Sahara Avenue and South Maryland Parkway.

The fire started in the backyard of the home and spread to a shed, the back wall of the home and a power pole, Szymanski said.

The department arrested a man in his mid-40s in connection with the Phillips Avenue fire, Szymanski said. The fire department did not provide that person’s name.

That blaze caused $5,000 in damage. The most expensive damage was to an NV Energy transformer on the power pole that will need to be replaced, Szymanski said. No one was hurt.
