Grand jury indicts five in telemarketing scam
Five people have been indicted on charges of racketeering and theft in connection with a Las Vegas telemarketing scam that tricked elderly victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Marshall Damar Broussard, Michael Lamonta Dies, Emmanuel D. Ford, Robert Earl Moore Jr. and Michael Ford each face three counts of theft of $3,500 or more from a person 60 years or older, one count of racketeering, one count of theft and one count of multiple transactions involving fraud or deceit in the course of enterprise or occupation.
Deputy Attorney General Michael Kovac said that between April 2013 and March 2014 the group would cold call victims and convince them to invest in an Internet company.
Four victims were named in the indictment, and bank records showed that more than $420,000 was wired to the defendants.
District Judge Jennifer Togliatti issued a $250,000 arrest warrant for each of the defendants.
Prosecutors alleged that the five men set up four companies — North Lake Consulting, Bakersfield Marketing and Management Corporation, Downline Marketing and Training, Dream Marketing and SEO — and told people they could profit off an investment in an online firm, though they knew the victims would never make any money.
