Hazy skies blamed on mulch pit fire burning in Moapa

A mulch and debris fire in Moapa brought hazy skies to the Las Vegas Valley.

The fire started Wednesday and is expected to burn for days, according to Bureau of Land Management.

The 40-acre fire, which the BLM said is contained, includes a 15-foot-deep mulch pit located behind the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza, about 40 miles north of Las Vegas on U.S. Interstate 15.

Mulch is a combination of compost, straw and plastic sheeting used to insulate soil.
