Hiker dies after fall at Red Rock Canyon

A hiker died Saturday after falling at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Las Vegas police said.

The hiker fell about 80 to 100 feet about 11:30 a.m. and was initially seriously injured, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said. He or she died before Metro's Search and Rescue unit could reach the location of the fall due to weather conditions.

Information on the exact location of the fall was not immediately available, but it was near the Oak Creek Canyon trail, Goodwin said.

The hiker will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
