A hiker who fell 20 feet into a crevice while hiking at Red Rock Canyon and Conservation Area Sunday morning was rescued by a Metro helicopter, Las Vegas police said.

The 22-year-old man suffered a head and ankle injury but was conscious when he was rescued by a Metro Search and Rescue crew, Lt. Bruce Miyama said.

The man was hiking near the visitor center shortly after 10 a.m. when he fell into a crevice, Miyama said. He was taken to University Medical Center by paramedics.
