Komen Southern Nevada marathon races through downtown
May 3, 2014 - 10:53 am
The 19th annual Komen Southern Nevada Race for the Cure took place at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas on Saturday.
Locals participated in a 5k run, 5k walk or 1-mile walk in the fundraiser for a cure for breast cancer. Since 1996, the Race has grown from 1,359 participants to more than 12,000.
Most of the proceeds — 75 percent — come back to the community while the remaining proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program. The program supports breast cancer research, awards and education.
