Las Vegas man, 81, steps into street, dies

An 81-year-old Las Vegas man was struck and killed Saturday morning when he stepped in the path of a vehicle traveling east on Charleston Boulevard near Pearl Street, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Witnesses told officers the man was walking north on Pearl Street and stepped into the right travel lane of Charleston as 18-year-old Matthew Greene approached in his Kia Sedona shortly before noon. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was transferred to University Medical Center where he later died.

Greene remained at the scene and was not injured. The accident is the second pedestrian-involved fatality in a 24-hour period and the 49th in the Las Vegas Police Department's jurisdiction.
