Las Vegas man gets 5 years in prison for beauty supply store arson

A Las Vegas man has been sentenced in federal court to five years in prison and fined $1.7 million after he tried to destroy a beauty supply store with fire and explosives last September.

Reynaldo Staana , 48, pleaded guilty in February and was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge James C. Mahon.

Staana was an assistant manager at the beauty supply warehouse at the corner of Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road until August, when he was fired. On Sept. 8, the U.S. attorney’s office said, Staana went into the warehouse after hours and ignited flammable liquid, intending to burn down the business.

“Defendant Staana caused over $1 million in property damage and destruction,” U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said in a statement. “It is very fortunate that his dangerous actions did not also result in injury or the loss of human life.”

He was arrested soon after and has been in custody since, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. His sentence includes three years of supervision after release. He pleaded guilty to one count of arson.
