Las Vegas police: Motorcyclist hurt in hit-and-run Thursday night

Las Vegas police say a driver who seriously hurt a motorcyclist in a crash Thursday had been drinking and tried to run away before they got there.

It happened about 11 p.m. when a 2011 Kia Sorento headed south on Rainbow Boulevard collided with a 2009 Kawasaki EX250, police said.

Motorcycle driver Eddie Rueda, 20, was turning left onto North Rainbow from the Las Vegas Athletic Club near Lake Mead Boulevard when Anthony Munoz, 29, in the Kia crashed into him, police said. Rueda was thrown off the bike.

Witnesses said Munoz was speeding.

Munoz initially kept driving after he hit Rueda, police said, but lost control of the Kia shortly after. Munoz and a passenger then tried to leave the scene of the crash on foot, but police caught up with them.

Police booked Munoz on one count each of driving under the influence and hit and run.

Rueda was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
