Las Vegas police release sketch of suspected shooter

Las Vegas police released a composite sketch of one of three young men they say is connected to the Tuesday night robbery-turned-shooting that left a 22-year-old woman dead.

The drawing is of the shooter who killed Laura McKinney, police said Thursday.

Police found McKinney about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday lying in the 1900 block of Simmons Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to University Medical Center where she died.

The initial investigation indicated McKinney and a friend were approached by three men. One of them was armed with a handgun and demanded her belongings, police said. He fired one round that fatally wounded McKinney.

The shooter is 16 to 20 years old, stands between 5-feet-6-inches and 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs 120-130 pounds, police said. He has a dark complexion and a thin build. His hair was described as short and tightly curled.

He was last seen wearing a bright red pullover with small white writing across the chest, black mesh-type basketball shorts and dark tennis shoes with white markings — possibly Converse brand, police said.

The second man police are searching for is described as 18 to 19 years old, about 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing between 130 and 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue or black hoodie and dark blue jeans.

The third young man is described as a 16 to 18 years old, about 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighing 130 to 140 pounds with a dark complexion and dreadlocks long enough to reach his eyebrows. He was last seen wearing a dark grey hoodie with dark blue or black sleeves and dark blue, baggy jeans.
