Las Vegas Valley to see rain Monday; flooding hits Death Valley

Have an umbrella and maybe a sweatshirt handy when you leave your house Monday morning, because rain and cooler conditions are forecast for most of the valley throughout the day, the National Weather Service said.

Showers will get a head start overnight and "taper off" in the afternoon, meteorologist Andrew Gorelow said Sunday night. Temperatures aren't expected to rise above 74 degrees.

A flood advisory will only be issued "if we get a lot of rain," Gorelow said, but as of Sunday night, the weather service wasn't expecting more than nuisance flooding at some intersections.

Mount Charleston and the Spring Mountains may see several inches of snow.

The northwest valley on Sunday saw a few isolated showers, mostly in the morning, Gorelow said. Temperatures topped off at 85 degrees.

The valley steered clear of storms that caused some flooding in Pahrump, Beatty and Death Valley National Park in California, about three hours northwest of Las Vegas. The park service said, via Twitter, that visitors were "stranded in many areas of the park" because there was flooding on both sides of the roads Sunday afternoon. It wasn't immediately clear if they were able to get out.

Don't get too excited or upset about conditions being similar the rest of the week. Gorelow said the chance of rain will diminish by Tuesday and temperatures might rise back into the 90s as early as Thursday.
