Laundry business’s roof collapses in downtown Las Vegas fire

A fire in a downtown Las Vegas laundry business caused the roof to collapse early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called about 5:30 a.m. to the fire at 125 S. 13th St., near Carson Avenue, Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

"A corner of the roof collapsed shortly after we got there," Szymanski said. "The flames started coming out of the top of the building."

The building houses New Image Dry Cleaners LLC, a small laundry service catering to restaurants and hotels, Szymanski said.

The business employed 10 people, and no workers were in the building when the fire started. The last person to leave the building left at 11 p.m. Tuesday and said everything was normal then, Szymanski said.

The large, expensive machinery was not damaged, but overall damage was estimated at $250,000, the Fire Department said.

Streets in the area were closed because of the fire, but they have reopened.

The department had the fire under control in less than 30 minutes, Szymanski said. There were no injuries.

Fire investigators have determined where the fire started, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
