Man arrested in connection with son’s suicide

A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with his 12-year-old son's suicide, Las Vegas police said.

Olin Manuel, 31, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center in connection with child abuse and neglect with substantial bodily harm resulting in death and possession of a gun by a prohibited person in connection with the death of Sincere Manuel.

Police responded about 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 to the 1600 block of Western Lily Street, in the northwest valley near North Buffalo Drive and West Lake Mead Boulevard. Sincere died at University Medical Center from a gunshot wound to the head. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's abuse and neglect detail determined his death was a suicide and that the gun he used had been bought by Manuel.

Officer Michael Rodriguez, a Las Vegas police spokesman, said Manuel has a criminal background that includes felony convictions and isn't allowed to own guns. When asked how Manuel bought the gun, Rodriguez said he didn't know.

District Court records show that Manuel pleaded guilty to grand larceny in December 2014 and was on probation.

Anyone with information about this case can call the abuse and neglect detail at 702-828-3364. Manuel is being held without bail and is due in court Monday morning.
